Have you ever had a wound that wouldn’t heal? Wounds may not heal because of various medical conditions, such as lack of proper blood flow and oxygen, as well as infections.
The Wound Healing Center team has the skills to assess the reasons your wound will not heal, take action to correct the situation, and develop a customized plan of care to begin the healing process.
“The major types of wounds we see are diabetic neuropathic ulcers, ulcers caused by poor circulation and venous insufficiency, post-surgical wounds, wounds resulting from trauma or pressure, and infections. Atypical ulcers such as malignancies and vasculitis are also diagnosed and treated at the center,” says Dr. Robert Snyder, Medical Director of the Wound Healing Center.
“Modern wound care consists of debridement, control of infection and inflammation, moisture balance and wound edge preparation,” Dr. Snyder explains. “After a comprehensive history and physical examination is performed, cultures, x-rays, scans, or Doppler ultrasound tests, among others, may be ordered. Biopsies may be performed and additional consultations with vascular, podiatric, and infectious disease specialists may be required.”
The physicians and nurses who make up the Wound Healing Center team possess specialized training and utilize the latest research to diagnose and treat the most difficult wounds. State-of-the-art therapies, including human skin equivalents, growth factors, and negative pressure wound therapy are used to help facilitate healing, when necessary.
The referring physician and primary care doctor are always kept informed of the patient’s progress and are important members of the team. Patient compliance with the treatment protocols recommended by the highly trained doctors and nurses of the wound care team is imperative to a successful outcome.
